Mountain Bike Routes

We choose to make routes that are not too long or technical the bike routes and are excessible for everyone. There’s no down hilling or tracks along dangerous ridges. Most people who do these routes like an easy ride or a bit of a challenge that only takes a couple of hours.

Mountain Bike Routes - El Burgo

These routes lay mostly to the northern side of Serrania de Ronda, because in the South lays the mountain ranges of Sierra de las Nieves, which are rouged, without villages or cell phone coverage etc. You can imagine for your security and ours, it’s best to cycle on the Northern side.

When take your MTB out, be aware of the time, as you’ll need to complete the whole route. Of course we can give you an indication of how long it will take, but this will depend upon your fitness level. All routes are described in kilometres, which means you can keep track of the distance you have covered using the bike computer, and can calculate how long it will take you to complete the route.

If you decide to ride on your own (with a map) you'll expect to cover an average cycling distance of around 5 to 10 kilometres per hour, as we are situated in a mountaineous area.

Cycleronda's idea is that, you start your cycling tour from Ronda and then whilst you're cycling you can choose at a certain stage of the ride to take the short or longer version of the same route. With this convenient option you can make your route as long as you like, it's just that easy!

Mountain Biking

We have made two types of colour coded routes, indicated in blue for short rides and black for more advanced riders, and these are shown on our maps. If you ride the short version, the blue route of up to 20km then you'll only pass one bar for water supplies or snacks/food. When you ride the bigger circuit of 25 kilometres or more, you will pass through a small village called Arriate, which has a nice selection of bars and a super market.

If you choose the more advanced route in black, you’ll have to leave the track not far into the ride to find a bar or restaurant, otherwise you will have wait till the end of this tour before you can find bars etc.

Here are some examples of our day trips that range from 13 to 40 kilometres:
1. Pilar de Coca
2. Puente de la Ventilla
3. Parchite & Arriate
4. Valley of the Rio Genal or the Guardiaro
5. Lifa and El Burgo

But there’s also a choice of a weekly trip that covers a greater area and therefore you might need to stay overnight in one of the villages. However if your an experienced rider and can do two cycling tours in one day.

Group Rides

Cyling distances range from 20 to 40 kilometres:

Example of a weekly tour: Ronda – Setenil – Montejaque - Ronda

When you leave Ronda you head North, you will be cycling towards the beautiful cave village of Setenil. This is normally the end of the first tour, but the experienced mountain biker could easily go ahead but use this place as a lunch stop.

You continue the ride until you reach the old ¨Bandoleros track¨towards an old Roman theatre, which was originally Ronda, now Ronda la Vieja (Old Ronda). Here you will take a small paved track that leads to the Grazalema-Seville road, where you'll arrive at the next stopping point, Montejaque. From this point you cycle back to Ronda over an old steep track, with stunning views that overlook this mountainous city.
