For an easy ride on the road there’s a few options. Of course you’ll need a good level of fitness, but in general this selection of road routes close to Ronda are pretty short, ranging from 26 upto 54 kilometres. Of course your always climbing or descending, but with light gears on your bike and a 3 to 5 hour cycling time, you can do any of these scenic routes.
The lightest routes lay in the North, towards Ronda La Vieja (an old theatre), Setenil and Arriate. Both of these routes are marked on the map and indicated in purple and in red. The nicer of the two routes, is in purple to Setenil, but the other route is also worthwhile cycling, especially if you enjoy climbing hills.
More to the East we have made this an easy ride (marked in orange), that leads to a panoramic lookout with views over the mountain ranges of Sierra de las Nieves. It’s a one way trip, therefore you can continue cycling to El Burgo, a white village in the middle of the mountain ranges.
South-southwest is for the serious road cyclist as you'll need a higher level of fitness. This route is marked in black and here lays some of the most adorable small 'White Villages" of Farajan, Juzcar y Cartajima. The second route marked in yellow heads in the same direction but you ride to Jimera de Libar and Atajate. These routes are more difficult, as they have longer slopes to climb and have less places/villages to stop and buy food or drinks.
On each route there will be several villages. Food and drinks can be found in many shops within these villages. But when you cycle from one village to another, there might be only a Venta (road restaurant), and usually they supply water, snacks and other small food items.
Most roads in the Serrania de Ronda have been renewed in the last 5 years! So it’s rare that you’ll be cycling on bad roads, but if you do, take special care. When your entering or leaving villages, you need to be aware of pedestrians, cars, mopeds, and roosters in the road which can be a dangerous surprise!
Note: For all these on road tours you can either use a hybrid bike, road bike, but also one of our especially prepared mountain bikes with mixed (semi-slick) puncture free tyres; so perfect for on and off road riding!
Below are some of our daily loops from Ronda ranging from 26 to 54 kilometres:
We also have set routes that can take you on long tours through the Serrania de Ronda, for upto six or seven days. This is the most popular cycling tour without a doubt, with its "White Villages", which is made up of routes from 30 to 50 km and can be extended upto 90km. This loop is one of Cycleronda’s most sold trips, as it combines cycling with nature and Andalusian culture.
Then there’s a second tour called Natural Parks, which leaves from Ronda and goes to the Natural Park of Alcornocales. This a cycling experience you shouldn't pass up, as it shows nature at its best and the nicest villages west of Ronda.
Lakes and Natural Parks is the third cycling tour that goes to the East of Ronda. Here you’ll pass the big lake of Ardales, and its beautiful white village. Later you can see Antequera with it’s spectacular landscape of the Natural Park, El Torcal.
All of these cycling tours and descriptions are available. To the right you can see an example of the type of map you can use on one of these cycling adventures.
