The Serranía de Ronda has a peculiar ¨micro¨ climate. Although it’s in the southern most point of Spain, wintertime can be rather cold and rainy. During this season you will also experience beautiful days, that feel like Spring time in Northern Europe.
Normally our high season cycling tours starts in February, and goes until June, and after summer from late August till half way through November. According to Cycleronda this is the best cycling season, however in spring we recommend that you pack some warm cycling clothes, as cycling tours in the morning can be a little fresh.
Of course you can cycle in December and January, but you'll need to wear warm and rain/wind protective cycling gear (long finger gloves!) as it can be very cold, wet and windy as Ronda is 720 meters above sea level. We also think cyclists should be made aware of cycling in summer (July and August) because the temperatures can be up to 40ºC! Cycling is possible during these times, but you need to leave very early, as soon as the sun comes up.
The best cycling weather is in March, April, May and June and again in September and October. Can it still rain in this period? Yes, that’s possible, but the chances of it raining is very low, especially in June and September. We suggest in the other months, you to take a light rain jacket.

In the Serranía, Ronda has a different climate than most cyclists would expect, as we are not too far from the Coast line. The height above sea level (is around 720 metres) helps to keep the summer heat tolerable, but in the winter you can have grey, cold and wet days. With our weather cycling calendar below, it should help you organise your cycling tour with Cycleronda.
* = okay to cycle, but with precautionThese Winter months you'll need a little luck with the weather. Normally you can have beautiful clear skys but it's very cold, as well as rainy days with no sunshine and cold winds. For the most part the bad weather doesn’t linger very long, and you’ll soon see the sunshine after a grey winters day.
If you’re from Northern Europe you're probably use to the cold, and maybe with the sun shining it won’t feel that bad. But be aware as a cyclist, if it’s a nice winters morning, the wind changes direction, it could do so in a minute. Of course we will inform you with weather updates and warn you when it's not safe to ride.
Bit by bit Spring is appraoching. March has cold mornings, but when the sun is out, it’s lovely. With luck on your side you can have a sunny, but beautiful cycling week.
April and May still has days with rainfall, but the temperature is very accomadating. Most cyclists will cycle in these two months because the temperature is perfect, the landscape is covered with wild flowers and it's lush green: a perfect cycling month.
June is getting dry, but nearly always sunny, and without any rain. We think it’s nearly ideal for cycling, especially for those who really don’t like the rain. The landscape will not be as lush or wild anymore. Summer is waiting...but the hills look very interesting as they put on a show with spectacular colours. Some days it can already feel like a summer's day, with up to 30ºC! With warm weather like this, it would be nice to look for accomodation with a refreshing swimming pool.
Although the summer in this area is very hot, for a cyclist who likes to get up early it's ideal conditions. When you wake up there’s a fresh morning breeze and the sun is just above the southern mountain ranges, which provides a lot of shade. Once you're riding you should plan to return before 2 or 3 pm, to make sure to avoid the hottest period of the day.
Late at night there's a cool breeze that refreshes the air, where you can sit for hours and relax, on one of the picturesque terraces in Ronda. At night it's possible to sleep with the windows open, and enjoy a summer nights breeze.
In September you can still feel that summer has only just left. Days can be pretty warm still, and there’s nearly a ¨no rain¨ guarantee, making it ideal for cycling. In October things can change and the first rain for autumn (after summer) begins.
Fresh and clean is the air, with very nice temperatures. Again another ideal cycling month, and if you're lucky November can be like October, but with lower temperatures and days with higher rainfall.
